Music Directing
One of Austin’s favorite things to do is to music direct (MD) for other artists. This goes beyond simply playing keys in their band. It means starting with early versions of songs (often just guitar + vocal demos), imagining them for a live setting, writing and recording arrangements for each instrument, and rehearsing the band. In 2023 he served as Luisa Marion’s music director. The two videos above are Austin’s arrangements of Luisa’s songs, both of which began as simple demos.

Arranging
Austin wrote all of the string and horn arrangements on the Time Travelers album. Here are excerpts from the various scores (some of these songs have not yet been released):

Teaching
